CakeCake is a dessert made of pastry and cream or jam. Usually it has several layers. The top of cake is decorated with chocolate, cream, nuts, fruit, jelly etc. There are so many different cake recipes, that every person on Earth can choose something for him/her. Whether you like it moist or dry, sweet or savory, fluffy or dense, cakes come in all flavors and tastes. Some cake recipes are universal, another are made only for gourmets.

There are also some traditions of baking cakes in different countries. E.g. in US we like upside-down cakes, cheesecakes, cakes with nuts. In Britain puddings, sponge cakes and apple pies are popular. In German people cook marzipan cakes and chocolate cakes. In Eastern Europe Napoleon cake is the most widespread.

Several cake baking tips:

  • when making dough for cake, add 1-2 tbsp of meringue powder. With it your cake will be higher and lighter in texture;
  • when creaming the butter, beat it not less then 5 minutes, then add sugar and beat again;
  • add egg yolks and whites to the cake dough separately. Beat yolks till creamy, whites – till light and frothy;
  • when making soda cake, mix soda with some vinegar before adding to the dough;
  • while baking fruit cakes and dense cakes put a pan full of water in the oven. Water will evaporate and make your cake not so dry;
  • use baking paper to keep your cake unbroken and beautiful. It helps to remove the cake;
  • preheat the oven before putting cake in it. The pan or baking sheet should be in the center of the oven;
  • if you're not sure either your cake has baked or not yet, try it with a wooden stick or toothpick. If the toothpick comes out dry and clean – the cake is ready;
  • to get your cake out of the pan gently take a kitchen towel, pour boiling water on it to make it wet, then put the pan on towel and wait for several minutes. After that remove your cake;
  • to cut the cake take an unwaxed dental floss or a hot dry knife.
