Print

worldleaders_cWorld leaders and their wives were separated as they tucked into their gourmet dinners on the eve of the G20 Summit (April 1, 2009). In the menu there were Slow-Roasted Shoulder of Welsh Lamb, very first of the season Jersey Royals, first of the season Asparagus and Wild St George Mushrooms etc.

In a throwback to the Victorian era when the sexes were kept apart, with the politicians opening summit business over their meal at Number 10 Downing Street while, next door at Number 11, their spouses relaxed in the company of guests including Dame Kelly Holmes and JK Rowling.

The three-course meal, devised by TV chef Jamie Oliver, was described as a "gastronomic tour of the British Isles."

First Lady Michelle Obama was seated between Olympic gold-medalist Dame Kelly and Harry Potter author Ms Rowling, who is a leading donor to the Labour Party.
