* 1 onion, peeled
* 2 cloves
* 3oz (75g) white breadcrumbs
* salt
* freshly ground black pepper
* 1 pint (600ml) milk
* a knob of butter

Stick the cloves into the onion, place in a microproof bowl with the milk. Heat on medium power for 8 minutes, then leave to stand for 30 minutes. Lift out the onion and stir in the breadcrumbs, seasoning and butter. Turn into a micro-proof serving dish, reheat on medium power for about 6 minutes until heated through, then cover with damp greaseproof paper and keep warm until required.
