Great US holiday Sweetest Day: when to celebrate, what to present

Great US holiday Sweetest Day is celebrated in several states and is one of the favourite for Americans. It is much alike with St. Valentine's Day. But on Sweetest Day we remember husbands, boyfriends, and just relatives and friends whom we love and respect. This holiday is celebrated on the 3rd Saturday in October.
Origin
Herbert Birch Kingston, a Cleveland, Ohio philanthropist and candy company employee started Sweetest Day in 1922. He presented sweets and small gifts to orphans, shut-ins and under-privileged. He wanted to make them happy and also he showed them that someone needs and loves them. Herbert Kingston even used movie stars to distribute the gifts to children.
Also On the first Sweetest Day, movie star Ann Pennington gave boxes of candy to 2,200 Cleveland newspaper boys. That's how she showed gratitude for their service to the public.
Today
Nowadays we celebrate Sweetest Day with our loved ones and friends. We give candies and gifts to our husbands, boyfriends, people who we love and respect, people who just have been sweet to us, whose helpfulness and kindness we have enjoyed. You can make a small gift to anyone you like. It doesn't matter in what relationships you are.
Many people are celebrating Sweetest Day now. Some of them just give presents and kiss their beloved and others do some ritual or surprise each other. For example, you can make a list of sweet things (candies you like, sweet places, sweet hobbies and so on) with your husband or boyfriend, and then do and eat all the listed things. Also you can make a romantic song about the two of you or about you and your friends.
Presents
Sweetest Day is a very nice holiday. But candy shops use this holiday to increase sales and price of sweets. That's why a lot of people make sweets at home instead of buying them.
On this day you can present to your sweetie: chocolate bars, a piece of multiple layerings, desserts made of nuts, fruits and grains, marzipans, caramel cookies, healthy cakes and sweets, even fruit etc.
