kiwiKiwi fruits contain almost twice as much vitamin C as oranges. One kiwi fruit supplies more than the daily adult requirement of vitamin C. The dark colour of the flesh means it is packed full of goodness. You can easily make different low-fat desserts with kiwi fruits.

 


Kiwi fruit, also known as Chinese gooseberries, grow on the deciduous vine Actinidia deliciosa and are now widely available. The green fruit looks very attractive sliced in a fruit salad, on a meringue pavlova or a cake, but they are also delicious simply eaten peeled.

Serving suggestion

For a low-fat dessert, make a meringue base as if for a pavlova. Once cooled, arrange sliced kiwi fruit over the top. Serve with low-fat fromage frais or set yogurt.

Nutritional content

Kiwi fruit is a very good source of vitamin C. It is not high in fibre, but contains some carotene and is high in potassium. Most children seem to enjoy its sweet taste.
