Chicken balls:
* 300 g (10 oz) minced chicken
* 1 clove garlic, crushed
* 1 onion, peeled and finely chopped
* 1/2 apple, peeled, cored and grated
* 1/2 chicken stock cube, crumbled
* 1 tbsp fresh chopped parsley
* ground white pepper and salt
* a little flour

Sweet and sour sauce:
* 1 x 400 g (14 oz) can chopped tomatoes
* 1 tbsp white wine vinegar
* 1 tbsp dark brown sugar
* 1 tbsp soy sauce
* 1 tbsp tomato ketchup
* 1 tbsp sake (rice wine)
* 2 tbsp vegetable oil

1. Mix together all the ingredients for the chicken balls. With floured hands, roll into 16 balls. Set aside in the refrigerator for about 30 minutes to firm up.
2. In a saucepan, mix together all the ingredients for the sauce and simmer for 5 minutes. Heat the vegetable oil and gently fry the chicken balls until lightly golden and cooked through (6 to 8 minutes). Mix together with the sauce and serve with Chinese fried rice.
