* 1 piece sirloin or porterhouse steak, about 1 kg (2 lb)
* 6 tablespoons olive oil
* 1 tablespoon chopped oregano
* 1 large garlic clove, crushed
* salt and pepper

* 2 tablespoons olive oil
* 1 small onion, finely chopped
* 750 g (1 1/2 lb) tomatoes, skinned, deseeded and chopped
* 6 tablespoons chopped oregano
* 2 garlic cloves, crushed
* 6 tablespoons full-bodied red wine

1. Put the steak into a shallow dish. Mix the olive oil with the oregano, garlic and salt and pepper to taste. Spoon the marinade over the meat. Cover the steak and then chill thoroughly in the refrigerator for 4-6 hours, turning once.
2. To make the sauce, heat the oil and fry the onion for 3-4 minutes. Add the tomatoes, oregano, garlic and wine and simmer gently for 10 minutes.
3. Drain the steak, reserving the marinade. Place on the oiled grill of a preheated barbecue and cook for about 15 minutes for a medium steak, increasing or decreasing the cooking time according to how you like your steak cooked. Turn the steak over, brush with some of the marinade and cook for the same length of time on the other side.
4. Cut the steak into thickish slices and then top each portion with some of the hot sauce. Serve with a salad and baked jacket potatoes.
