* 1 large onion, chopped
* 1 tablespoon sunflower oil
* 1lb (450g) good minced beef
* 2oz (50g) fresh white breadcrumbs
* salt
* freshly ground black pepper
* 1 tablespoon freshly chopped parsley
* 1 egg, beaten

For the sauce:
* 14oz (397g) can peeled tomatoes
* 1 tablespoon
tomato puree
* 1 teaspoon sugar
* Salt
* freshly ground black pepper
* 1 level teaspoon chopped basil
* chopped fresh parsley, to serve

1. Put the onion and oil into a large but fairly shallow microproof dish and mix well. Cook on full power for 8 minutes, stirring once during cooking.
2. Measure the minced beef, breadcrumbs, seasoning, parsley and beaten egg into a mixing bowl and work together until thoroughly blended. Divide into 12 equal-size portions and, with lightly floured hands, roll into balls. Arrange meatballs on top of the onion and cook on full power for 2 1/2 minutes; turn the meatballs over and rearrange in the dish, then cook for a further 2 1/2 minutes. Again, rearrange the meatballs in the dish.
3. Empty the canned tomatoes into a processor or blender with the puree, sugar, seasoning and basil. Process until smooth. Spoon over the meatballs, mixing the sauce into the onion in the bottom of the dish. Cover with pierced clear film or a lid and cook on full power for 10 minutes.
4 .Stir the sauce around the meatballs, allow to stand for 3 minutes and serve sprinkled with freshly chopped parsley.
