* 1 or 2 slices wholemeal (preferably), otherwise white or brown bread or use slices of French bread or raisin bread
* Marmite or Promite (optional)
* 1 egg
* 2 tbsp full-fat milk
* a generous knob of unsalted butter
* a little vegetable oil
* sugar and/or cinnamon (optional)

1. If using sliced bread, remove the crusts and cut into four triangles or into fingers. If you
would like a savoury version, spread a thin layer of Marmite on the bread. Beat together the
egg and milk and soak the bread in this mixture for a few seconds. Drain on kitchen paper.
Heat the butter or oil in a frying pan and fry until brown on both sides.
2. For a sweet version, add a little sugar or a pinch of ground cinnamon to the egg mixture and sprinkle a little sugar on to the toast after frying.

Serves: 1-2 portions
