1 1/2 oz butter
1 tablespoon flour
1/4 pint beer
2 onions, finely chopped
2 carrots, sliced
2 oz mushrooms, sliced
1 lb braising steak, cubed
2 tablespoons tomato puree
salt and freshly ground pepper
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1 bay leaf
triangles of toast


Metric
40 g butter
1 x 15 ml spoon flour
150 ml beer
2 onions, finely chopped
2 carrots, sliced
50 g mushrooms, sliced
500 g braising steak, cubed
2x 15 ml spoons tomato puree
salt and freshly ground pepper
1 x 5 ml spoon dried thyme
1 bay leaf
triangles of toast


Place the butter in a large deep dish and MICROWAVE ON HIGH for 30 seconds. Blend in the flour and MICROWAVE ON HIGH for 1 minute. Stir in the beer, then add the remaining ingredients, except the toast. Cover and MICROWAVE ON HIGH for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. MICROWAVE ON LOW for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove the bay leaf and leave to stand, covered, for 10 minutes before serving. Garnish with toast.
